Are Weddings in Medellin legal everywhere in the world?
Yes, a wedding in Medellin is carried out under Colombian law and as such is recognized around the world as a legal marriage.
What type of wedding locations are available in Medellin?
Medellin is a picturesque and historic town that provides a wonderful setting for your wedding. From historic churches, beautiful outdoor settings, colonial mansions to the hotels both period and modern, you have an amazing choice for the kind of wedding you want.
What kind of price range do Medellin hotels offer?
Whatever your budget there are options in Medellin, with hotels ranging from $70 a night to $450 and beyond.
Will the weather be a problem for an outdoor wedding ceremony?
Medellin enjoys great weather all year round, although there is a reasonable amount of rainfall. January is the driest month, with October the wettest. December to April are the best choices for an outdoor wedding. You get consistent temperatures all year round, averaging around the low 70’s Fahrenheit every month.
Can I bring my own flowers to a Medellin wedding?
To bring live flowers into Colombia you need to obtain a Phytosanitary certificate and would need to seek assistance from the Colombian Embassy or Consulate where you are travelling from. However, Colombia is known as the flower capital of the world, and whatever flowers you want for your wedding, your wedding planner will be able to source them for you locally to avoid the hassle.
What documents are needed to get married in Medellin?
A civil marriage in Medellin requires a Marriage Visa, for which you will need several documents for both parties.
These are:

- • Valid Passport
- • State Issued ID
- • Copy of Birth Records notarized within the last 3 months
- • Proof that each person is single and free to marry in Columbia
- • Copy of divorce certificate or death certificate if either party has been married before
- • If either party has children, an inventory of assets is required
Processing the documents takes 5 days. Of course, we can handle all this for you before you arrive so your wedding can take place when you arrive.
For a religious wedding, you will need:
- • Baptism Certificate officially confirmed within the last 3 months
- • Confirmation Certificate, again officially confirmed within the last 3 months
- • Single status certificate issued by a priest and authenticated by a Church official
These are required for both parties, and because a religious wedding in Medellin has no legal standing, you will also need to carry out a civil ceremony and require all documents stated for that as well.
Do I need witnesses for the wedding?
For the marriage to conform to legal requirements, you will need two witnesses who must be over 18 years of age. If you don’t have suitable witnesses with you during your celebration, we can provide witnesses for you, just talk to your wedding planner.
Can I bring my own minister for the ceremony?
Yes, you can, although there is additional paperwork needed for this. Let your wedding planner know this is your choice early in the process and they will make sure everything is taken care of for you.
We don’t speak Spanish, will this be a problem?
Your wedding planner can help you with all paperwork and assist during the wedding to ensure that everything goes perfectly, so it won’t be a problem.
Are same-sex marriages legal in Medellin?
