Cartagena is a fantastic place to visit, with something for everyone. From vibrant nightlife, incredible water sports, beach life overlooking the Caribbean and a historic city full of surprises, Cartagena can be the perfect destination for everyone.
But at a time when costs for everything are going up, can you really travel to Cartagena on a budget?
Yes! Even when money is tight, you can find value hotels right across Cartagena and still enjoy everything it has to offer. Here are three of our favorite affordable hotels in the city.
[None of these hotels have their own websites as far as I can tell, I took the information from TripAdvisor using the best reviewed places for the cheapest prices]
Hotel la Magdalena
Sitting within the historic walled city, this may be a budget hotel, but it puts you right in the heart of everything going on in Cartagena. At just US$25 a night, it is a great place to stay if you are on a budget, but you are still within an easy walk of the beach, and great nightlife is right on your doorstep too.
Rooms are comfortable and bright, service is great, and the hotel offers Wi-Fi to keep you connected too.
Hotel La Esperanza Cartagena
A modern hotel you can enjoy for just $25 a night, it is in the La Esperanza neighborhood in the southeast of the city. Close to some wonderful clubs and live music venues, if you enjoy a =vibrant nightlife, this is an ideal choice.
Rooms are bright and spacious, well-equipped and service is great too, and the hotel has some really nice communal areas including a balcony with fantastic views across the city. You can relax during the day or watch the sunset with a drink. A wonderful option for a budget stay in Cartagena.
Hotel Leyendas del Mar
At around $35 a night, this is a little less budget friendly than the other two, however, if you can stretch your budget you do get plenty in return. Found in the Getsemani district, it is within a few steps of the historic walled city, and close enough to all the landmarks you want to see on a visit to Cartagena.
Free Wi-Fi, a rooftop bar and a pool area make it a really nice place to spend time, with lovely rooms that use bold colors to create a sense of space. The hotel has great service, and the desk can help you with a range of activities including salsa lessons, museum tours, restaurant bookings/ For the adventurous, there is always the trip to pirate island to try!
