Best Places to see the Sunset in Medellin

Medellín is a fantastic place to visit. Whether you come for an engagement or wedding, or just to see the magnificent flower festival and enjoy the unique hospitality of the region, there is something for everyone in Medellín.

But one of the things that we all love is to watch the sun going down, seeing the rich colors dance around the sky is always magical. But seeing it somewhere new, the sun disappearing over a horizon you don’t know, is one of the joys of travel.

If you are in Medellín for a day, a week or any length of time, you don’t want to miss the sunset, here are the best places you can go to get the best view possible.

Mirador de Las Palmas

Head to the hills above Medellín for the very best view of the sunset in the area. Mirador de Las Palmas is found on the road towards the international airport, and is a place locals and tourists alike enjoy for its spectacular views.

It is great for seeing the sun set over the city, but is a wonderful place to enjoy views any time. During the day it gives you views of Medellín unlike any other, and once the sun has set, seeing the city lit up is simply spectacular. You will often find food and drink vendors at the site too, so you can enjoy the sunset with your favorite snacks.

San Javier cable Car Station

The cable car is part of the metro system, so simply take the car from the west side of the river and travel to the last stop. There is a purpose built platform for admiring the view, and again, it is great at any time of the day, but especially beautiful when during sunset.

The added bonus here is that the cable car ride revels some wonderful views of its own, and after sunset, you can come back down with the city lights twinkling. It’s a great option, but like Mirador, can be busy as a popular tourist spot.

Cerro Pan de Azucar

If you would like somewhere a bit less touristy but easier to get too, this park is one to consider. It is still not as easy to visit as riding a cable car, and you will have to walk to the top of the hill for the best views. However, with kite flying, cycle paths and picnic areas, it has plenty to occupy you for the day, and at the top you get to enjoy those spectacular views.

On a weekend there are vendors around, especially ice cream vendors if you want a treat, and while you will find other tourists and locals enjoying the outdoor gym, you will always be able to find a quiet spot to enjoy the sunset in peace.
